San Francisco Airport (SFO) Shuttle and Airport Transfer Services

The airport is roughly 13 miles from the downtown area, and should take you around half an hour, depending on traffic. San Francisco isn’t that big geographically so it’s never that hard to get around.

Absolutely. SFO's AirTrain runs 24/7, with services every few minutes. AirTrain runs two lines - the Red Line and the Blue Line - and both can get you between all terminals. 

The weather in San Francisco is like Lombard Street - full of twists and turns. You may have heard of the city’s famous microclimates, where the weather can differ between neighborhoods. You’ve probably also heard or seen the city’s fog, which can make temperatures drop significantly. In a nutshell, the weather is pretty temperate but make sure you dress in layers so you can rug up or cool down during the day.

Absolutely. It’s an extremely walkable city, with most of the major sights accessible by foot. Coming at just 7 miles by 7 miles, it’s easy to navigate. Get yourself some good walking shoes and start exploring. It is a very hilly city though, so be prepared to really feel the burn as you walk around. Keep an eye out for the stairways that cut up through some streets, making things a bit quicker. Of course, if you run out of steam, you can always call an Uber or a Lyft. Public transport here is a breeze as well, so grab yourself a Clipper card and jump on board the buses, trains and streetcars. 

Well, if you’re hoping to see a time capsule of the counter-cultural ‘60s, then probably not. There are tiny remnants here and there (and the smell is still in the air) but it has gentrified to a certain point now. It’s cute enough for a stroll, some coffee and a look around a bookstore, but the days of the love-ins are definitely in its past.

It’s pretty mild all year round so there’s no Arctic winters or sweltering summers to avoid. Having said that, there are still distinct tourist seasons, so if you want to experience San Francisco without the tourist crowds, aim for autumn and spring.

Yes! San Francisco is not the cheapest place to visit, so it pays to scope out free events to stretch your travel budget. Check out San Francisco’s incredible array of museums – they generally offer free admission at least once a month.

You mean Karl? (Yep, it’s known to the locals as ‘Karl the Fog’. Cute, right?) Well, he does make for some amazing photo opportunities, but if you want to get technical, the fog is caused by warm ocean breezes blowing over the cold water of the bay. Karl can be a bit of a prankster, messing with microclimates and hanging around long enough to see you put a sweater on, then zipping off to leave you baking in the sun a minute later. But hey, he’s pretty photogenic.
