In March, the first regular and direct flight between Australia and Europe will take off on one of the longest passenger flights in the world.
On the 24 March 2018 at 6.45pm, the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia and the UK will take off from Perth in Western Australia as the historic Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner makes the more than 14,000 kilometre journey to London Heathrow, landing at 5.05am the next day. This will make it the longest Boeing Dreamliner flight in the world and the third-longest (expected) passenger flight in the world. Qantas has eight of the fantastic new Dreamliners, which will also be flying non-stop between Melbourne and Los Angeles.
Did you know…? As Australia’s largest domestic and international airline, it’s only fitting that the eight Qantas Dreamliners are named after Australian icons and things unique to the country. Qantas put out a nationwide poll to name the fleet, with the first Dreamliner being titled Great Southern Land. The other seven names are: Great Barrier Reef, Boomerang, Skippy, Waltzing Matilda, Uluru, Quokka, and Dreamtime.
